What does the qualification cover?

The aim of this qualification is to prepare learners to work with children between birth and five years, with knowledge of children up to seven years. Learners could also progress on to the Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Education and Care or the Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce.

Who is it suitable for?

This qualification is suitable for a range of learners from the age of 16 onwards who have little or no experience in childcare.

What are the entry requirements?

You should be at least 16 years old. We do not set any other entry requirements but colleges or training providers may have their own guidelines. 

How is this qualification structured?

Learners must achieve a total of 33 credits: 29 credits from mandatory group A; plus 4 credits from optional group B.

 

How is it assessed?

All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. This could include direct observation within the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task.

Some learning outcomes within this qualification will require assessment in a real work environment.

 

Do you need to be working to take the qualification?

250 placement hours are recommended for this qualification.

 

How long does it take to complete?

This qualification will take one year to complete.

 

What related qualifications can you progress to?

This qualification allows progression on to the Level 3 Early Years Educator qualifications and other Level 3 qualifications relating to child care.

 

Which type of job roles can you apply for on completion?

Upon achievement of this qualification, learners can progress into various job roles in the statutory, voluntary or private sectors, such as: 

•  Nursery assistant
•  Classroom assistant
•  Pre-school assistant
